Last week Stephen Amell confirmed what many fans already suspected, that the "Fifty Shades of Grey" film team had begun casting discussions with actors. His vague statement left many questions and the "Arrow" star elaborated on the meeting during Wondercon. Fifty Shades Film posted the YouTube video on their Sulia news site April 4. Modestly dressed and speaking openly about the role of Christian Grey, Amell told TV Equals, "just discussed it, there's not even a script, or there wasn't at the time." This statement automatically dates his meeting to the time before Kelly Marcel completed the script on Feb 22.
Amell, 31, gave more details about his meeting and admitted he had not read the "Fifty Shades" trilogy.
"I was at Focus Features and I had a meeting and uh it wasnt specifically for Fifty but that is one of the topics covered. Just discussed it, there's not even a script, or there wasnt at the time. That will be a cool project."
He was eventually asked if he would consider the controversial role of Christian Grey in "Fifty Shades of Grey." Amell responded, "sure, let's read the script, make sure that it's good. Its not like doing sex scenes are out of my depth." The Toronto born actor is currently on hiatus for "Arrow" and has no additional projects in the works.
"Fifty Shades of Grey" fans can see this information as a step in the right direction. While telling fans that there will be no casting until a director is chosen, team fifty is still working behind the scenes to line up potential actors for the film. Christian Grey favorites, Ian Somerhalder and Henry Cavill, still have open schedules and have both shown interest in the role. E L James has admitted that her top choices may not be who people expect so fans will have to continue to wait patiently for official casting news. In the meantime, check out some potential directors for the film and join the casting discussions on Facebook and Twitter.
