Stephanie's Day 2012 in Dallas

It is time again for the annual Stephanie's Day event in Dallas. Stephanie's Day began in 1998 and was the brain child of Steve and Sheilah Mauldin. The Mauldin's are the parents of Stephanie, a now 22 year old bright and happy girl. Stephanie happens to be autistic and this was the catalyst for the first Stephanie's Day, which started in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

When Stephanie was diagnosed as autistic at age 2, there were few organizations to offer parents and caregivers information regarding resources. The Mauldin's changed that with Stephanie's Day. The event began as primarily a resource for autism and still has that as its main focus but has branched out to support other special needs such as Asperger's Syndrome. The purpose of the event is to assist parents in finding resources available as well as give them an opportunity to connect with other parents in similar situations. It is important for parents and children alike to feel they are not alone and that there are organizations and resources out there for them to rely on.

The event will have fun for the kids such as face painting, games, entertainment and clowns as well as plenty of resource information for the parent from advocacy groups, healthcare providers, camps and more.

Please support and attend Stephanie's Day 2012. This year the event is being co-sponsored by the Gene and Jerry Jones Family Dallas Cowboys Charities and the Autism Treatment Center.
