Stephanie Jacobsen's "NCIS" role has fans buzzing about the possibility of a new love interest for Tony DiNozzo. Michael Weatherly will have a new partner in crime on the series for season 12, and it looks like the new woman in his life will become the new woman in his romantic life as well. Ziva David, who was played by Cote de Pablo, exited the picture at the start of season 11, so it could be time for Tony to move on and find someone new. The Spread It reported on this casting on Aug. 20.
Stephanie Jacobsen was last seen as the former flame of Aiden on the series. Her character was not happy at all to find out that Aiden killed her father. The actress also starred on the short-lived "Melrose Place" reboot on CW. For "NCIS" on CBS, she will play a character named Leia, and she will be partnered with Tony DiNozzo. Previous spoilers teased that Tony would have a new partner this season, and the relationship may involve more than work. The character is described with the following:
"Leia Pendergrast [is] a hot and straight talking FBI Special Agent who temporally joins the fictional team of Naval Criminal Investigative Service to investigate a terrorist threat made on American soil. Miss Pendergrast is single, outgoing, funny and a real fighter."
Gary Glasberg did reveal that he created the new character as a romantic interest for Tony because it is time for him to move on and mend his broken heart after Ziva's departure. Fans can also expect to see a mature relationship for the pair. Tony has grown up a lot since his emotional split from Ziva. Leia will make her first appearance on the series during an episode set for October.
"NCIS" fans were saddened by the exit of Ziva David from the series, and many did hope that her character would return. Spoilers for season 12 have teased a potential return for the character, but Leia is definitely set to replace Ziva as the woman in Tony's life. There might be a mention of the character in an upcoming season 12 episode though. That mention could close the chapter completely on Tony and Ziva.
As for season 12, spoilers have revealed that the season premiere is titled "20 Clicks." It will air on Sept. 23. Episode two of season 12 is titled "Kill the Messenger." Episode three has not had a title released, but it will be centered on Ducky. Adam Campbell has been cast as a young Ducky, and this episode will show the character's life in flashbacks. It will air in October. Gary Glasberg said the following about the casting of Campbell as the younger version of Ducky. According to TV Guide:
"When we saw Adam, all we could think of was a young David McCallum. We can't wait to introduce him as young Ducky and watch what he brings to this unusual role."
The cast of "NCIS" has been busy filming episodes for season 12, and this season will see a new milestone for the CBS series. The cast celebrated 250 episodes with a great big cake. Mark Harmon did speak out about the milestone for the series for a new video included in the season 11 DVD set. He said the following, according to CBS News:
"Did any of us think it would be where it is now? I don't know."
It is safe to say that "NCIS" has been a strong hit for CBS. This fall will see the arrival of a new spin-off for the series. "NCIS: New Orleans" will give fans even more drama. "NCIS: Los Angeles" is entering season six this fall. "NCIS" will premiere season 12 on Sept. 23.
