While Radek Stepanek has achieved much success in his pairings in doubles tennis, his record in romance couplings suffers another setback. It is over between him and fellow Czech player, Petra Kvitova.
A Czech newspaper confirmed that the couple, dating since the middle of 2013, has decided to go their separate ways. Former Wimbledon champion, Kvitova said,
"To combine a career and a relationship between two top players is sometimes impossible."
Lately, Stepanek struck doubles gold on the men's ATP tour. Along with countryman, Tomas Berdych, Stepanek was instrumental in sealing the deciding match for the Czech Republic's champion Davis Cup teams in 2012 and 2013.
Along with Leander Paes of India, Stepanek racked up two Grand Slam doubles titles. The duo captured the 2012 Australian Open by beating the Bryan Brothers in the finals. Then Paes and Stepanek topped the Bryans again in the semi-finals on their way to the 2013 US Open championship.
However, in the game of love, Stepanek has stumbled. Former world number one Martina Hingis from Switzerland was briefly engaged to Stepanek, but the engagement was called off in 2007.
Retired Czech tennis player Nicole Vaidisova married Stepanek in July 2010 and divorced in June 2013. Shortly afterwards, Stepanek started a romance with Kvitova who was ranked as high as number two in the world.
Stepanek age 35 and 24 year old Kvitova recently played together in Hopman Cup competition in 2013. Karel Tejkal, a manager who represents both players, said even though they broke up, they will continue to support each other.
