'Step Up 5' is happening

Despite how Rotten Tomatoes hates it, and how critically panned it is, the “Step Up” series keeps raking in the big dollar numbers on a shoe-string budget, and because of that we are now getting “Step Up 5.”

Deadline is reporting today that Summit Entertainment (“Twilight”) has hired John Swetnam (“Evidence”) to write the script, and Scott Speer (“Step Up: Revolution”) to direct.

The new film is said to end with a big dance-off wherein stars of the previous films can make cameos.

This will likely mean that beloved dancers like Stephen 'tWitch' Boss, Adam G. 'Moose' Sevani, and Mari Koda will appear, but they may not star.

I am sure it is safe to say Channing Tatum (“21 Jump Street”) and his wife Jenna Dewan-Tatum (“American Horror Story: Asylum”) will not make an appearance.

I think he is too big to settle for some small role like this (though the same could have been said about Johnny Depp in “21 Jump Street”), and Jenna is pregnant, but who knows.

It is safe to say that the plot will be shallow, the performances weak, but the dance numbers creative and entertaining, and if it hits anywhere near $140 million worldwide like the last one does then we are stuck seeing these for a good while longer.
