Step three:
Register the name of your new business.
In Raleigh, NC, you can go to: Wake County Register of Deeds, do a business name search and then print off a form to register your business name. After you print it out, fill it out and take it to get notarized. If you take it to a bank where you have a bank account, there should be no charge for getting this document notarized.
After it is filled out properly, make a copy for yourself and mail the original to the address listed on the bottom of the form along with the filing fee. As of 1-1-13, the filing fee is $26.
I am not sure of what the exact turn around time is for you to get your paperwork back after your business name has been put on file, but I have found the turn around to be fairly quick. I got my papers back within about 1 week.
