Step two:
Come up with a business name.

The name of your new business should incorporate all that you plan to photograph. It should also express your individual personality. If you are going to focus on food photography, “Family Photography” obviously will not work for you. However, “Picture Perfect Food Photography” is a better choice. You get the concept here, it is not rocket science.

You may be incorporating several different focuses in your new business. If you are planning to photograph people, nature and animals, for example then you want your business name to encompass all of your focal points.

One may think that coming up with a name for a business is a simple task, when in reality it will take some thought.

Here are some pointers for coming up with your business name:

  • Write down your ideas
  • Ask others for their ideas
  • Narrow your options down to 3 or 4 choices
  • Ask others what is their favorite choice out of the 3 or 4 you have chosen
  • Pick your favorite

Tip: Business names tend to vary due to what part of the country you reside. Decide if you want to stand out and be different than other photographers in your area or if you want to go with a similar concept.
Do a Google search to find Raleigh Photographers and the names of their business.
I have noticed, in Raleigh, NC many of the photography business owners use their first and last name as the name of their business. Example: Jane Doe Photography
