Today's demonstration summarized the findings of 1) no back EMF, 2) no component degradation (e.g. Gauss diminishing) to produce the effect, and 3) inductance gain (energy being harvested from somewhere). With this final demonstration, the technology is now being released to developers to prepare the technology for market.

Steorn did their "overunity demo" of their e-Orbo technology today at the Waterways Centre in Dublin, Ireland where they have had several copies of their electromagnetic devices on display since Dec. 15, minus a break through Christmas and New Years.
Steorn CEO, Sean McCarthy summarized the tests that have been done until now and then gave a final piece of evidence, live.
If their technology is what they say it is, it could provide a new, clean energy source that is affordable and available 24/7/365 and scalable to whatever size is needed, large or small, pulling inexhaustible energy from the environment.
One of the attributes he reviewed was the absence of back electromagnetic flux (BEMF) in the coils. This he illustrated by a videotaped presentation comparing their e-Orbo with a pulse motor of a more conventional arrangement, then showing the oscilloscope readings that show the absence of BEMF in the e-Orbo while BEMF exists as would be expected in the conventional pulse motor.

McCarthy also reviewed a test that had just been completed, which had spanned the past week (live on streaming camera three), in which the gauss (magnetic field strength) of all the magnets were measured before, then measured again at the end of a week to show that there had been no degradation in the magnets. This was to show that the energy manifesting in the system was not a function of components of the device giving up their energy and being degraded in the process.
Then, McCarthy showed a scope shot comparing the electrical input energy to the electrical output energy, showing a net gain in inductance or gain in energy (harvested from the environment somehow, in the tradition of Nikola Tesla). One curve represented the gain in output energy after each pulse, rising from left to right; and the other curve represented the sum of input energy during the same period. That curve was shown to be well below the output curve, hence yielding the conclusion of "overunity".

If I understand correctly, the oscilloscope shot being shown live was of the motor as it was presently running, giving such a result live.
McCarthy said that the data they had recently collected showed 327% more electrical energy being produced compared to the electrical energy being input. That number does not take into consideration other factors such as bearing and air friction as well as heat. He said this data would be posted on their website for review.
Apparently Steorn did not get around to doing a calorimetric test they had planned, to quantify the heat generation component of the system to include that number in the input:output calculation.
McCarthy announced that they had extended their stay at the Waterways building and would be allowing people to make appointments to come in and measure these systems for themselves through February 26.
Meanwhile, beginning in the first of February, Steorn will open the SKDB (Steorn Knowledge DataBase) initiative for educating licensing parties in the process for the beginning of their development process. The first week will be exclusive to those who have already been involved in the SKDB process and are licensing its development.
The presentation lasted about half an hour, with over 900 people watching live by the end of their webcast, and probably at least a hundred present at the Waterways building. McCarthy said that there have been around 2500 visitors so far at the Waterways building since they launched the demo on December 15th.
The purpose of these demonstrations has been to interest development groups to get involved, under license, to develop the technology to its myriad of applications. McCarthy said Steorn has made the development license fees low to encourage more development, with the hopes that the more people who get involved in developing, the faster the technology will arrive in the marketplace in practical embodiments. The cost of a developing license is 419 Euros.
McCarthy said that there have also been third party validations of their technology, some of which they will be allowed to post on their site. He said that some of those who do independent tests don't wish for their names to be made known publicly; which they honor.
Though McCarthy hasn't mentioned it, the reason I use the "e-Orbo" designation is because the company allegedly also has an all-magnetic version of the electromagnetic phenomenon, which I would guess will be called "m-Orbo." It was in an interview with me right after they first announced their discovery in the Economist in Aug. 2006 that McCarthy said that their effect was an all-magnet motor. (Ref.) Apparently somewhere along the way in the process of exploring the various aspects of the phenomenon, they came up with an electromagnetic version; and after much debate, they decided that the electromagnetic version would be the one they would put forward at this time.

Here's the YouTube videos published on Feb. 1 by SteornOfficial featuring McCarthy's historic Jan. 30 "Proving Over-Unity" live presentation at the Waterways Centre in Dublin, Ireland. The presentation is professionally edited and rendered, with several camera angles. It's sure to become a classic, as the technology now goes into the hands of developers.

Underwhelmed

The Steorn demo was underwhelming. They have the equipment to really prove their point and then they just don't bother to follow all the way thru and make it thoroughly convincing.
I am hoping they will finally, really let people go measure the device. They promised people could go do that over two weeks ago. They have many broken promises..
Promises from the past
1) Come measure it yourself next Monday (said two weeks ago)
2) Calorimetry data
3) Device shown doing work (light lights, etc.)
4) Data on the magnet properties over time
It will be nice to see a battery actually being charged up.

Sometimes its what we don't see that is most interesting. If I was Sean, I'd probably not publicly try to power lights with my working Orbo. As he communicated, he is not interested in selling his machine. He is interested in licensing his idea so others can design & sell their machines. Showing glowing lights running on their own would be too interesting to the public and he would be inundated with lots of worthless "attention". Its best to keep it "technical" and "boring" and let the engineers out there do their work.
Also, when someone builds and fine-tunes an orbo-type machine, they will likely keep it a secret until they can market it. Any wise designer/manufacturer would keep r&d as secret as possible so as not to feed the competition. It is likely that this effect has reduced the number of visible replications.
If orbo is legit (and I am becoming increasingly convinced) there are already multiple effective replications out there. We just can't see them, yet.

Any such device directly contradicts fundamental thermodynamic laws of physics. By violating Conservation of Energy plus the Second Law's principle of "entropy" that guarantees less than 100% efficiency in heat-engines, Steorn's electromagnetic "over-unity" asserts perpetual motion.
Nuclear fusion indeed may generate surplus energy, but only given internal dynamics and not by any means forever (gravitational energy enables stars to shine for billions of years). Though an irreducible "zero-point" energy remains a necessary component of physical existence, analogies with superconductivity are invalid. However Steorn devices may appear to function, under no circumstances may they generate energy from non-energy, nor may they function as heat-engines performing "work" with 100% efficiency.
It's just BS. There's no way to tell from that video what was actually done or what it means. More senseless crap from Steorn.
They are putting themselves in a very open position for lawsuits and a lot of other drawbacks if this turns out to be fake. Why would they knowingly do that. There have been way too many false claims in the past. I feel there should be some sort of standard proof of validation before claim of a working prototype is awarded more air/internet time as a way to advertise there product and/or there ego. We need this type of technology in the worse way and it's time we get serious about it. There has to be rules that we can all adhere too...It's time we boldly go where no Corporate Government want's us too go.

Sorry about the double (now tipple) posting. Apparently hitting refresh in certain situations can cause a posting. Sorry again. Have a great day all.
You can not create energy. Pipes don't create water either. Having said that, if it actually works it is using an unknown source of energy.
Claiming such things are impossible based on the laws of motion, thermodynamics etc is silly. Lord Kelvin declared that powered flight was not possible once too. Fortunately the Wright Bros paid little attention to the 'experts' of the day. The emperors new cloths syndrome I believe. Newton was a bright fellow, but he was never a god.
The ONLY way to conclusively proof overunity is by running close / isolated circuit powering itself for hours. Only small energy storage allowed. For example a capacitor of 0.2 Farad by 2 volts. Initial start can be done by a battery subsequently disconnected (0.4 Joules of stored energy).
A battery they used 10 Amp Hours 1.2 Volts got about 45 kilojoules of energy and may run such thing for many hours. It is too easy to make a mistake or cheat in measurements like shown to us. I have noticed from their previous video for instance their voltage oscillogramm got cut-off pulses, which must be in reality much higher but their differential voltage probe obviously cut it short (distort real voltages). If one use such scope traces to calculate power / energy then result may be underestimated by factor of two-easily.
Just building a device that doesn't exhibit any back EMF is quite interesting and tends to make a person believe that this device is unique. If not over unity it could still be highly efficient.
From what I've been reading actually demonstrating a over unity device could lead to being shut down by forces unseen.
Considering the price to get all the facts up close from Steorn it would seem that a person or company that is interested would not be getting cheated and would be getting in on the ground floor of something new and interesting and perhaps profitable.
Just another BS demonstration that satisfies no one with half a brain as to their claims. Please not the battery does go flat and the only way to do this is closed loop. As far as developers goes, their terms and conditions are crazy and no one in their right mind would accept them.
Sorry No Cigar.
Isn't this Steorn setup just another Bedini motor ??
Why the battery ??
Here is a real test Steorn could easily do.
Replace the battery with a large capacitor and if the average voltage across the capacitor does not change or fall whilst the rotor is spinning at a constant speed then we know that no net energy is being drawn from the capacitor so it must be over unity because additional energy is needed to over come the friction in the bearings and losses in the coils. I doubt it though otherwise they would be showing this test.
Steorn should stop obfuscating the issues with inductance energy, EMF and confusing oscilloscope waveforms because a simple common sense test would be more practical.
What do the Irish call it Blarny? We already have motors and clocks that can run for a great deal of time on just one battery. Lets get on wit it and develop energy storage and distrubution and all the energy problems go away.
Is someone actually going there this week and examining it closely? Would love to see a blogger testing everything to confirm or deny if it works.
Also it does not matter if the device itself can run on battery power for a long time.
The missing back-emf is an indicator that at least THIS of their key principles work.
Its all so quiet now that Steorn has proven that it has what it said it had and the best is yet to come very soon now.
It's quiet on the various forums because Sean is taking a holiday. Also because the demos showed absolutely nothing except how easily believers can be confused by razzle dazzle. The presentation had no numbers, no calibrations, no standardization, and nobody even can tell where the scope probes were connected. Some proof of OU that is! It's garbage folks. Carl Tilley and his silly De Lorean were a lot more fun.
"Sometimes its what we don't see that is most interesting."
I agree. Imagination and blind, unsubstantiated hope is always superior to cold hard science.
If all of this is true,WHERE IS IT???Show and Tell, dog and pony shows don't do much good other than show and tell, dog and pony show."WHERE'S THE BEEF???Anybody listening????
Where's the beef? In investor euros. 20 million or more of them which Sean and his henchmen have mostly spent on trivia events, booze, travel, and general screwing around.
NO back EMF !
his clame that there is no back emf is because the rotor with the magnets moving is BUNK
the bedini ssg charges batteries from back EMF it's the same setup pulsed coil rotating magnets
as a fact of the matter that thing could be a bedini ssg being passed off as something he came up with
back emf IS a property of induction .
he must have a diode in the scope lead to hide the back EMF
I think this guy is selling snake oil because of this slight of scope trick he played
It is April 9th.On the 26th Stoern will have to come up will the beef,or the pork.Anyone heard anything?
Well on April 26th stoern will have to show the world "The Beef"or let us know he "Porked" some people out of alot of money.Has anyone heard anything from anybody?
One thing that I am sure is REAL -- they want your money
