The Stellar Gospel Music Awards are the Oscars of music. The awards are designed to recognize the bests in gospel music, whether artist, writer or other professional. Over 35, 000 fans from across the country vote to determine those who are nominated.
The 29th annual ceremony took place live Saturday January 18 from The Municipal Auditorium in Nashville Tennessee as awards were given to various artists for their contributions over the year. The awards were hosted by personalities Ricky Smiley and Sherri Shepherd. Awardees included artists Tamala Mann, Tye Tribbett, Hezekiah Walker and Tasha Cobbs for their very well-known selections.
This year's awards, however, had a Baltimore connection as well. Anthony Brown and group therAPy have been taking over the airwaves with their hit, Testimony. This song is literally sweeping the country. Saturday, Brown and the group not only performed, but also received awards for Group/duo of the Year, Contemporary Male of the Year and Music Video of the Year.
According to the website, www.thestellarawards.com, The Stellar Gospel Music Awards is the first and only gospel music awards show in the country.
Congratulations to Anthony Brown and group therAPy!
