The Pittsburgh Steelers No.1 running back Le’Veon Bell was arrested on Wednesday afternoon after a traffic stop. According to the Associated Press, Bell was charged with marijuana possession and a DUI-marijuana charge.

Sources close to the situation say that LeGarrette Blount was also in the car with Bell, but he was not arrested at the scene. He was able to find a ride after the traffic incident.

ESPN reported that Blount was on the plane to Philadelphia for their game on Thursday night.

According to, the Pittsburgh Steelers did not have a comment at the time, but they will be releasing a statement pertaining to Le’Veon Bell’s arrest.

The reports say that a motorcycle cop noticed the smell of marijuana emitting from Le’Veon Bell’s Camaro. Soon after, the officer pulled the car over and did a search of the vehicle. Reportedly, the officer found 20 grams of marijuana, and Bell admitted that the marijuana belonged to him and another unidentified female passenger.

After the arrests, authorities took Bell to the hospital to undergo a drug test. He had blood drawn and they are waiting for the results to come back. If he has marijuana in his system, Bell will likely be charged with a DUI.

Le’Veon Bell was unable to make the trip, and his status for the rest of the preseason is unknown. The possession and DUI charge are both misdemeanors.

It’s not a perfect way for Bell to start his second season after having such a wonderful rookie year. In 13 games, Bell ran for 860 yards and 8 touchdowns. That was almost after being out for the season with a foot injury.

As a full time starter, Bell was expected to be one of the top young backs in the league. This can be only a minor setback, but off the field issues can factor into on field performance.
