Steelers running back, Chris Rainey was arrested on Thursday because of a battery charge. To make matters worst for Rainey, the rookie was later cut after the Steelers found out about the arrest in Gainesville, Fla. This arrest is just one of the many incidents that Rainey has been involved in throughout his short and troubled career, says USA Today.
According to police, Rainey and his girlfriend were involved in an argument that escalated. Police said the dispute was over his cellphone and when his girlfriend tried to leave he pulled her out the vehicle. Nearby witnesses told investigators that he slapped her in the face and then chased her as she tried to get way with his cellphone.
Rainey was arrested and taken into custody and is being charged with one count of misdemeanor simple battery.
Shortly after the Steelers organization heard about Rainey's altercation with his girlfriend and his arrest, they gave him the boot. Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert gave the following statement about the incident,
“Chris Rainey’s actions this morning were extremely disappointing. Under the circumstances and due to this conduct, Chris will no longer be a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers.”
