Steelers mad right decision with Rainey

On Jan. 10, the Steelers issued a statement about the release of running back Chris Rainey.

It said the following : “Chris Rainey’s actions this morning were extremely disappointing,” Steelers General Manager Kevin Colbert said. “Under the circumstances and due to this conduct, Chris will no longer be a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers.”

While some have criticized the move, saying the team acted before facts were know, it was the correct decision.

Deadspin.com recently reported a different story to the events that took place that evening, and his girlfriend who he allegedly beat has denied the events and is asking police to drop the charges. Still, Rainey has had other run -ins with authorities over the years including a stalking charge.

The Steelers gave him a chance despite those misdeeds to make the NFL, make a difference and also learn from the players in the lockeroom about the Steeler way. He obvioulsy didn't learn from guys like Maurkice Pouncey and Max Starks who also were Florida alums.

Rainey hasn't officially been dropped by the team, he has been waived and that cannot happen until after the Super Bowl. The status, even if aquitted likely will not change,

Perhaps another team will give him a chance to showcase his skills in the future, but for now until he is cleared by attorneys or not cleared he is another example of what is wrong with sports.
