The Pittsburgh Steelers all-time leading receiver, Hines Ward, took to his Facebook page to once again take on the media reports that he is retiring now that the Steelers season is over. Steelers fans are still reeling from the shocking loss to the Denver Broncos in the first round of the playoffs, and hearing that the beloved receiver was going to retire did nothing to soothe the fans.
Ward, 35, is one of the top athletes of Generation X, and though his playing time was been significantly reduced this season to make room for younger receivers, he does not intend to retire yet.
Ward posted this statement on his Facebook account on January 9, 2012: “I wanted to take a moment to thank all of Steeler Nation for the love and support. I’m sorry for the disappointing loss. I’m still depressed about it. We had a great year finishing 12-4 but our ultimate goal was to win the Super Bowl and we fell short. Hats off to Denver.” He went on to add, “I’m also getting lots of questions about retirement so let me set the record straight: I have no plans on retiring right now. I want to win another Superbowl. I don’t know where the media is getting this info from but rest assured that when I decide to retire, you’ll hear it from ME first.”
So despite the rumors and reports, Ward intends to play again next season for the Steelers and make another run at what would be his fourth Super Bowl appearance.
