Steelers going pink in intrastate matchup against Eagles (Photos)

Every year, the NFL and NFLPA get involved in helping others by supporting Breast Cancer Awareness month. This year, the campaign is, “A Crucial Catch: Annual Screening Saves Lives”. The Pittsburgh Steelers will be showing their support for the cause in several different ways when the Philadelphia Eagles visit Heinz Field on Sunday.

While the Steelers and Eagles players will both be wearing special pink equipment items, like gloves and towels on the field, Heinz Field will be filled with other forms of awareness as well. The game balls will feature pink ribbon decals and the kicking tees will be pink. Banners will be hung throughout the stadium and the goal-post padding in both end zones will be pink. Coaching staff will also be wearing clothing that shows support in the fight against breast cancer.

Kickoff is set for 1 p.m., but fans are encouraged to arrive well before the gates open at 11 a.m. The Steelers' 1st-IN-GOAL promotion, sponsored by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, will allow fans who enter Heinz Field early an opportunity to win exclusive prizes from the team. Other events are scheduled as well.

All fans will be given pink 'Terrible Towels' upon entrance and are invited to participate in the 'Terrible Towel Twirl' on the Steelers' sideline just prior to kickoff. Fans are also encouraged to wear pink in support of the campaign to fight breast cancer. Eight top crew members of the USS Pittsburgh, led by Commander Michael Savageaux, will lead the twirl event with Benjamin and Brian Neas (Cinnaminson, N.J.), who were the winners of this week's “My Pittsburgh Steelers” fan contest and 1st-IN-GOAL pre-game field pass winners.

Before kickoff, an all-female color guard will present Sunday's colors and breast cancer survivors will be recognized on the field. A presentation of $10,000 will be made to the Susan G. Komen Pittsburgh Foundation. RPM recording artist, Maggie Rose, will sing the national anthem.
