Steel City Blades in Lake Placid for Eastern Synchronized Skating Sectionals

Pittsburgh’s Steel City Blades synchronized skating teams will be among the more than 150 synchronized skating teams from throughout the eastern section of the country competing at this weekend’s 2013 Eastern Synchronized Skating Sectional Championships in Lake Placid, N.Y. in hopes of qualifying for the U.S. Synchronized Skating Championships, a national-level synchronized skating event.

This year’s sectional championships kick off on Thursday, Jan. 31 and conclude on Saturday, Feb. 2 at the Lake Placid Olympic Center in downtown Lake Placid. More than 24 hours of competition across 14 various U.S. Figure Skating synchronized skating levels are scheduled over three days on the Olympic Center’s 1932 Rink and 1980 Rink.

The Steel City Blades Open Juvenile team will be among the first team’s to take to the ice Thursday morning when they skate their official practice on the 1932 Rink. They will skate second in the first flight of eight teams later that afternoon during the Open Juvenile qualifying round that includes a total of 26 teams.

The Steel City Blades Pre-Juvenile team will also compete Thursday following a late afternoon official practice session. They will skate seventh during the first flight of nine teams in the qualifying round that includes a total of 28 Pre-Juvenile teams.

Should the Steel City Blades skaters advance to the final round, they will return to the ice on Friday along with 11 other teams. The Open Juvenile final round will be held at 8 a.m. on the 1932 Rink followed later in the day by the Pre-Juvenile final round at 6:46 p.m. featuring the 11 teams that advanced from Thursday’s qualifying rounds.

All spectators must purchase an admission ticket to the competition. Tickets for all events are available at the following prices:

  • Adults ages 13-64: $17 per day/$45 for all three days of competition
  • Seniors over age 65: $14 per day/$32 for all three days of competition
  • Juniors ages 7-12: $14 per day/$32 for all three days of competition

There is no charge for children ages 6 and under. Tickets may be purchased at the Lake Placid Olympic Center door.

The 2013 Eastern Synchronized Skating Sectional Championships is sanctioned by U.S. Figure Skating through the Skating Club of Lake Placid.
