Steam Train Excursions
It has just been announced that “Puffy” the steam locomotive will be making monthly runs for the next four months. These excursions will only take place on the first Saturday of the month. Puffy was built in 1896 and only makes special runs now. Last Saturday, Puffy was out to help celebrate the National Day of the American Cowboy in the Fort Worth Stockyards. There were people along the roadways and alleys from Grapevine to Fort Worth for the opportunity to see Puffy. They were ready with camera on hand take pictures of the special steam locomotive in action. They were there to capture the rare sight of the steam coming out of the stack and trailing out of the side. It really is a wonderful sight to watch this train from the Old West running once again.
The dates of these special monthly excursions are:
- August 2
- September 6
- October 4
- November 1
You can choose from two different routes. You can ride the 10:00 AM steam train for a one hour excursion which stays in Grapevine. This trip does not take you to the Stockyards. If you are riding with small children, this would probably be the better option since it is a shorter ride.
The other excursion is at 1:00 PM which goes from Grapevine to the Fort Worth Stockyards and back to Grapevine. This train departs Grapevine at 1:00 PM, arrives at the Stockyards at 2:15 PM is there for a couple hours and arrives back in Grapevine about 5:45 PM.
Kids of all ages enjoy these train excursions. The staff on the train is great, especially the conductors in each car section. Feel free to ask them questions or take pictures with them. Concessions are available for purchase during the train ride.
Two things you should be aware of:
- Do not forget your camera. There will be numerous photo ops that you will not want to miss.
- Purchase your tickets in advance. These rides are very popular and do sell out.
