The National Lacrosse League featured three games on Saturday, January 12, 2013. The Washington Stealth's offense was too much for the Colorado Mammoth to handle. The Buffalo Bandits were able to rebound against the Minnesota Swarm after their loss the night before. The Toronto Rock looked like they were in mid-season form against the Calgary Roughnecks.
- Minnesota Swarm 12 at Buffalo Bandits 13
- Washington Stealth 17 at Colorado Mammoth 13
- Toronto Rock 13 at Calgary Roughnecks 11
The Bandits were trailing as the teams entered the final quarter of play. However, thanks to the brilliant play of Chad Culp and rookie Dhane Smith, who notched two goals each in the final stanza, Buffalo was able to come out on top.
After an evenly played first half, the Colorado Mammoth failed to find the back of the net in the third quarter of their game. The Washington Stealth filled the nets to take a 16-8 lead into the last quarter. Despite a 5-goal fourth quarter, the Mammoth weren't able to bring the score even again. Washington was led by another outstanding performance by Cliff Smith (4g, 3a).
Although the Calgary Roughnecks never led in their match-up against the Toronto Rock, the game was tightly contested. The Rock scored within the first 7 seconds of the game thanks to a face-off win by Stephen Hoar. The Roughnecks would cut the score to 11-10 in the fourth quarter, but two back-to-back goals by Kasey Beirnes sealed the victory for Toronto.
The NLL has one game on tap for Sunday, January 13. The Toronto Rock hope to take their momentum gained from their opening season win into Edmonton when they take on the Rush at 4:00 p.m. EST. This marked the first 2013 game for Edmonton and their newly constructed offense.
