Staying Motivated During Weightloss


Ever wondered how to stay motivated while trying to lose those extra pounds? These are some ideas you may find helpful along the way.


Keep a food diary. It is easy to think you have eaten very little, but if you are a grazer you may have eaten your way to gaining a pound. Or, if you have trouble keeping a food diary, make a list of what you are going to eat for the day and stick to your plan.

Get a diet buddy. This person will help you keep on track or get back on track when or if you fall off the wagon. When you are in it for the long term, cheating is realistic. Just make sure to get back on the diet wagon, and don't expect weight loss to come overnight. It took years to get heavy and it will take months to get it all off.

It may help to have a before picture on the refrigerator that reflects your current weight so that you can look at the size you no longer wish to be. Place a card next to the picture that says "Eat to live, don't live to eat". You may find something else that speaks to you for motivation.


Also, a saying on the bathroom mirror is helpful for example, "Today is my diet day" or "Attitude is everything".Place pictures of loved ones on your bathroom mirror to remember why you are doing this. Be sure to reward youself once a week or when you reach your first weight goal loss. This could be a day at the beach or something you really love to do.
