Stay relaxed through the holidays with a Cypear Buck

With the holiday season comes shorter days and colder nights. People crave the comfort of the warm indoors. This time of year also brings along the stress of making it home in time for the holidays, finding the perfect present for a loved one, hosting holiday parties for family and friends and keeping sane while getting it all done. While most people eat their way through the holidays with the traditional turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, cranberries and stuffing, some prefer to take in their comforts in a liquid form. A fun, holiday cocktail to try is the Cypear Buck.

Traditionally, a “buck” is a cocktail made with a base spirit, lemon juice and gingerale. A Cypear Buck is made using citron vodka (I used the new Sobieski Cytron), pear nectar, fresh lemon juice, allspice simple syrup and ginger ale. The citron vodka enhances the overall citrus flavor in the drink. The pear nectar and allspice simple syrup make the drink seasonal for the holidays. The Cypear Buck is delicious, easy to make and perfect for entertaining holiday guests.

Cypear Buck

2 oz Sobieski Cytron vodka
1 oz pear nectar
½ oz lemon juice (half a lemon, squeezed)
½ oz allspice simple syrup
1 ½ oz ginger ale
3 slices of pear and one cinnamon stick (for garnish)

Add vodka, pear nectar, lemon juice and allspice syrup to a mixing glass. Add ice. Shake and strain into a rocks glass, over ice. Fill with ginger ale. Garnish with a pear slice fan, sprinkled with cinnamon and a cinnamon stick.

Allspice Simple Syrup

1 tsp ground allspice
2 cups granulated sugar
2 cups water

Combine sugar and water into a medium saucepan. Stir over heat until sugar dissolves and the mixture comes to a boil. Stir in allspice. Remove from heat. Let stand for 45 minutes. Strain mixture through a fine meshed sieve. Keep refrigerated. Syrup will keep for up to three weeks.

In the United States, vodka outsells all spirits 3 to 1. Due to vodka’s popularity, there is never a shortage of brands to choose from. Sobieski vodka is one of the newest additions to the U.S. vodka market. This authentic Polish vodka is made from Dankowski rye, which can only be found in Poland’s Mazowse fields and gives the vodka a distinctive character. Since its introduction in 2007, Sobieski has set out to debunk the myth that the more expensive a vodka is, the better quality it will be. Sobieski’s “Truth in Vodka” ad campaign focuses on educating consumers about the importance of what goes “inside” the bottle instead of the outside packaging.

Sobieski recently introduced two flavored vodkas to their portfolio: Sobieski Cytron and Sobieski Vanilia. Sobieski Cytron is made from Dankowski rye and natural citrus flavor. The nose on Sobieski Cytron is zesty and crisp. The taste is bold and juicy. Sobieski Cytron can be enjoyed all on its own or easily mixed in any cocktail asking for a citron flavored vodka. This is why using Sobieski Cytron is a great choice for making a Cypear Buck cocktail.
