Natural Bridge Caverns is always a cool place to visit. Enjoy the constant 70 degree temperature as you tour this cave system 180 feet beneath the ground and marvel at the stalagmites, stalactites and other beautiful formations. Above ground, the kids will enjoy panning for minerals and fossils in the sluice. A climbing tower and zip lines are also available.
Adjacent to the caverns is Natural Bridge Wildlife Ranch, a fun drive-through safari where you can see hundreds of exotic animals from the air-conditioned comfort of your car. Buy a bag of animal feed at gate to share with the animals along the route. Many of the critters will come right up to your car for a snack—just watch out for the ostriches, who tend to get a little too friendly. Save on the admission fee by downloading a coupon from this page.
New Braunfels also boasts plenty of water recreation at the Guadalupe and Comal rivers, Canyon Lake and the fabulous Schlitterbahn Waterpark.
For a family-friendly evening of entertainment, check out the Canyon Trail Chuck Wagon Supper & Cowboy Music Show. You'll enjoy a supper of smoked brisket with all the trimmings, along with the “How the West Was Sung” show featuring classic western tunes. Open Fridays and Saturdays through the end of August, 888-40-TRAIL.
Getting There: Natural Bridge is located between San Antonio and New Braunfels, about 50 miles southwest of downtown Austin. From I-35, take exit 175 and go seven miles west on Natural Bridge Caverns Road. Canyon Trail is five miles west of New Braunfels; see their website for directions.
