Caregivers have so much to worry about and now our government has just extended the period of time for worrying by a few months, a very small Social Security raise and nothing else. Health care is still on the plate, money is short enough, and now we can spend more time worrying about what will happen in February (or December, if we are really pessimistic).
Caregivers for the greater part (95%) must live on a fixed income with medical care costs that are blossoming. Let’s be clear politics aside, we are being held hostage by the lack of respect or concern for our elderly and infirmed. Those caring for spouses and loved ones already do not have two nickels to rub together and there seems no help coming fast.
AARP has been a political group which has had our back. Where are they right now? NARFE has been another group which has been there for us in the past; we don’t hear about them right now either. It seems that everyone just wants us to be quiet and spend more.
For us the only say we have is to write or call our representatives in Washington. We may only be the person paying the caregiver or another family member; we may be the relative of a veteran or a veteran which is still able to speak up. This is the time to let Washington and our lobbyist know exactly what we think. If you do not know who to write or call, look up your representatives and organizations you belong to online. Simply enter the name of the organization; state and senator, congressman and so forth and follow the path. Here are some examples www.aarp.org www.narfe.com www.oregan.gov www.newjersey.gov
