State of the Union address will attempt to save face on Obamacare

The presidential State of the Union address is Jan. 28, 2014 at 9 p.m on Capital Hill. Obama is expected to address the nation on a variety of issues some that may affect the outcome of this fall's midterm elections.

As he is preparing the State of the Union speech, his approval ratings are at an all time low and many expect he'll put off Obamacare for a year then divert his attention to bread-and-butter issues including unemployment, college access and minimum wage aimed against the Republican party.

Encouraging immigration reform is likely on the agenda as Michelle Obama invited Cristian Avila, a 23-year-old illegal immigrant to attend as her guest during the speech. Avila received high profile attention after his small group of illegal immigrants protested on National Mall grounds for 22 days. They group fasted the entire time, drinking only water, and not eating food for the duration.

Marc Thiessan, a fellow with the American Enterprise Institute and Washington Post says that Obama will try to turn the page on Obamacare controversies in 2013 in his State of the Union address and focus on income inequality. His opinion, “Good luck with that.”

In ‘The Lie That Hangs Over the State of the Union’ Thiessan says, “Today, a record 72 percent of Americans say big government is the biggest threat to our country — the highest that number has been in 50 years of polling. Concern with big government is so bad, even a majority of Democrats — 56 percent — consider it the biggest threat the nation faces.”
