State of emergency called for PA, New Jersey, MD and Ohio snow fall totals are high. Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell declared a disaster emergency for the state of Pennsylvania Saturday morning because of the massive snow storm.
The winter snow storm has brought heavy snow, strong winds, roads have been closed and tens of thousands of people are out of power.
Harrisburg has already received 18 inches since yesterday, 28 inches in Upper Strasburg, Franklin County; 27 inches in Glen Rock, York County; 26 inches in parts of Blair and Somerset counties; and 25 inches in Cambria County, according to Penn Live.com
Some areas of Ohio are under a snow emergency level 2, which means that people should not be driving in the snow storm. Thousands of people are without power in the state. Some of the major roads like US 22, 33, and Ohio 37 are clear, but again state officials warn people not to drive. According to the National Weather Service, most of the snow has already passed through the state of Ohio.
In New Jersey, a state of emergency has been called for certain areas in central and southern New Jersey. One storm has passed through the state, and another is expected this afternoon. Blizzard warnings were issued for Atlantic, Burlington, Cape May, Cumberland, and Ocean counties. More than 89,000 homes are without power in Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland, Gloucester, Ocean and Salem counties.
A state of emergency has been declared for the state of Maryland. 2-3 inches fell per hour over night and buried areas of Baltimore. Another 5-9 inches is expected for the rest of Saturday, according to the National Weather Service. Snow fall totals across the state measure 5-32 inches.
About 34,000 home are without power, and people left abandoned cars on freeways because plows were unable to keep up with falling snow accumulation. The BWI airport cancelled most flights as of this morning.
Salt Lake City, Utah is expecting several snow storms this weekend coming one after another, beginning Friday night. Rain and snow is expecting all weekend in Salt Lake City, with 1-2 inches of snow and rain Friday night in some areas.
