'State of Decay' developers extend partnership with Microsoft Studios

State of Decay turned into one of the surprise Xbox LIVE Arcade releases for the Xbox 360 in 2013 and developer Undead Labs announced Friday that it has signed a "multi-year, multi-title agreement" with Microsoft Studios.

"We’ll be able to share details later this year, but as with State of Decay, we think it’s best if we just keep our heads down and build some prototypes before we talk too much," Undead Labs founder Jeff Strain wrote on the studio's official blog. "For now, suffice it to say there are big things going on with State of Decay."

State of Decay was originally code-named "Class3" by Undead Lab before it was revealed as an open-world sandbox zombie survival title. However, the studio has also been working on a massively multiplayer online title codenamed "Class4" that will serve as a sequel to State of Decay and allow "thousands of players to run around simultaneously in a much larger server-hosted world" according to a Q&A session from 2011. Presumably, the studio is continuing its work on Class4 though it seems likely that it will see an Xbox One release at this point.

Meanwhile, the mention that "big things" are happening with State of Decay suggests that it could possibly be seeing its way to the Xbox One as well.

State of Decay is currently available on the Xbox 360 and PC via Steam for $19.99.
