State Libertarian Chairman resigns

J.J. McCurry, the Libertarian Party of Florida's chairman for the last 14 months has effectively resigned as of this past Friday at 5PM and the state's vice-chair Vicki Kirkland has immediately taken his place.

McCurry resigned due to his apparent disappearance and was not available at last week's Libertarian Party of Florida's Executive Committee meeting. The EC gave 29 year old McCurry until Friday at 5PM to resign or offer a good reason for his recent absences however he never offered either. McCurry did speak with Ms. Kirkland over the weekend and assures a smooth transition.

In recent months the Executive Committee for the Libertarian Party of Florida (LPF) entertained a motion to censure McCurry after he failed to get timely and important documents to the LPF's treasurer, Jim Tall. Although the motion failed, McCurry was recently involved in a controversy which kept John Wayne Smith and himself off the ballot for Governor and Lt. Governor of Florida. Both were running an active campaign to get into the governor's mansion in this November's general election, however the Florida Division of Elections office says it never received the paperwork naming McCurry as Smith's running mate as Lt. Governor. Last minute efforts to rectify the situation met with McCurry doing a 'Mark Sanford' as McCurry could not be found and was out of contact for nearly five days.

The Libertarian Party of Florida will elect new officers at their annual convention/business meeting in West Palm Beach on April 30, 2011. It is unclear at this time who will run to chair the LPF for the next two year term, however Vicki Kirkland has stated she will be the chair only through the convention in 2011 and will not run for the position. She will however run to be the vice-chair from 2011-2013.

According to the Florida Division of Elections website the Libertarian Party of Florida has 17,522 registered Libertarians in the state which makes it the third largest legitimate political party in Florida. The LPF also boasts many more members than those registered to vote with the State, however does not publish membership numbers. The Libertarian Party of Florida stands for free markets and civil liberties.

    Hi Eric,
    Good to hear from you.

No, she's a registered Libertarian in Florida and been a member of the Libertarian Party for some time.

More right-wing shenanigans. McCurry falls on his sword so they can blame him as they continue to wreck the LP. Smith was banned from the party permanently, what happened?

They don't publish member info as none of them, including Dickey, Tall and Snitker, are actual members. People are leaving due to the inaction of the SOE and now Dickey makes the preposterous claim they have more than 18,000 paying members. You have it right, Eric, they're GOP moles.

Incredible you have to read this here instead of the website. These clowns have been operating in secret for months.

    Anonymous,

Your idiocy would be comical if it weren't so tragic. You are clearly compensating for something dramatic the LPF did to you last year, and you are choosing to lash out here with complete lies. No wonder you were booted, glad I voted you and your clan out. I say "the LPF did to you", but clearly what you did to yourselves.

I am not an actual member? That is news to me. Perhaps you can let me know how to become a member because I certainly thought I was one. I get the LP News, my membership comes up for renewal next year and I have been registered Libertarian consistently since 1996. So perhaps you can enlighten me.

Additionally, we actually have MORE registered Libertarians in Florida over the last few years, so I am not certain where you get your information - your statement is completely false.

Lastly, as of last week there are 17,522 registered Libertarians in the state and no where in the article above do I make the claim the LPF has more than 18,000 PAYING members.

"The LPF also boasts many more members than those registered to vote with the State, however does not publish membership numbers."

Interesting. Dickey attacks people for quoting his own statement above, then admits he's purging people, then assumes they're the ones attacking him.

The only article I read about people being booted out was their candidate, Smith. Dickey says elsewhere at Examiner he is having a choice of GOP speakers at his Libertarian meetings tonight. I would sure like to see the minutes of these purges. They sound like the GOP purges last year. Yeah, he sounds nutcase GOP.

Who booted who off, when, and why? The LPF took down the page with the minutes. Is their another site?
