State high school soccer tournaments to move to St. Cloud for two years

Minnesota high school soccer fans will have to put more mileage on their vehicles come tournament time in 2014 and 2015.

On Thursday, the Minnesota State High School League Board of Directors approved Husky Stadium, on the campus of St. Cloud State University as the site for the state soccer semifinal and championship games the next two years while construction proceeds on the site of the new Vikings stadium, which is scheduled to be completed in 2016.

The 2014 semifinals and finals will be played October 28-30. The 2015 event will be held November 3-5.

Soccer will be the first team sport since girls fast pitch softball to have its championship games played outside the Twin Cities. The softball tournament is played at Caswell Park in North Mankato.

On the football front, the 2014 Prep Bowl will be played November 21 and 22 at TCF Bank Stadium on the University of Minnesota campus. In 2015, the Prep Bowl will be held November 13 & 14 due to the venue being booked for Gopher football.

More details on how the 2015 football season will be conducted will take place at the board's next meeting on January 23.
