After selecting 11 start-ups this past spring, the Startup Stampede is coming again to recruit more entrepreneurs into the program. Based in downtown Durham, NC, chosen startups will receive furnished office space with wi-fi, meeting and parking spaces, expert advice, start-up mentors and a community of peers all for free over a period of 60 days, September 16 - November 18, 2011. The purposes of the program are to accelerate the time for start-up of new firms and attract more entrepreneurs to Durham.
Applications are being accepted now through 12 pm EST August 12, 2011. The program is open to anyone with an idea and is not limited to Durham residents. The application requires a one page summariy of the business concept, team member information and strategy for how the company will gain customers. 78 applications were received for the last session.
Finalists will be selected based on team strength and concept scalability. While most participants will be invited, a new twist to this year's stampede is one participant will be chosen by a community vote from the public. A community vote can be acquired by making a financial contribution to the program of at least $25. The funding platform is hosted by Startup Stampede alum crowdfunding firm Rippple.
The program is sponsored by the Durham Chamber of Commerce, Downtown Durham Inc, City of Durham and a host of established local companies. Follow them on Twitter and Facebook for instant updates on the program and its alumni.
