Thirteen companies selected to participate in the Bull City Startup Stampede began their program today in Durham, NC. In August, 53 companies applied for a spot in the urban incubator program to gain a competitive edge in their pursuit to be the next big thing in their industries.
For the next 60 days, they will have access to free space, mentoring by established entrepreneurs and a new network of ambitious peers. Participation in the program is expected to accelerate the time for startup of these companies. Companies were selected for the scalability of their concepts and the strength of their teams.
One chosen participant, Durham-based ibuzzn, is developing an iPad app to disrupt technology currently used by restaurants to let waiting customers know their tables are ready. Founded by Stephanie Harris and Roderick Frizzelle, it is already receiving buzz with an upcoming recognition during Blacks in Technology Entrepreneurship Week this November.
Other companies participating are:
- Blackberri Entertainment and Urban Media
- GreenSky Wind Systems
- Organic Transit
