It’s an (unscientific) fact that running makes pumpkin pie taste better. If you want to find out for yourself, join the West Texas Running Club Thanksgiving morning for their annual Turkey Trot 2-mile and 12k race. Both races begin at the Bayer Museum of Agriculture. The 12k begins at 9am with the 2-mile following at 9:05. The 12k is a loop course with several short but steep hills. The 2-mile is an out and back course with some slight hills. The 2-mile race also includes the option for 4-person teams. Each team member registers individually with the fastest cumulative team winning.
Online registration runs through Monday, November 25th at 6pm. Prices are $20 for running club members and children 7-12 and $30 for all others. Registration includes a long-sleeved technical shirt. Packet pickup will occur on Tuesday, November 26th and Wednesday, November 27th from 11am to 6pm at Planet Fitness (50th and Indiana) and on race day no later than 30 minutes before the start. Late registrations will be accepted at packet pickup on Tuesday and Wednesday for $35. There will be no race day registration.
Children must be 7 to run the 2-mile and 16 to run the 12k. Volunteers are needed for both packet pickup and race day duties.
The fun is not limited to those in Lubbock. Thanksgiving is the biggest race day in the country. If you won’t be here, take a look for a race near you.
