What better way to kick off the New Year than with a wiener, or a bunch of them!
Or how about nearly 300 at the Key West Dachshund Parade, which has been a new tradition on the East Coast that in some ways is as popular as the Ball dropping in Times Square. This year was the 8th year for the dogs on display.
There is tradition in Key West every where when a drag queen is dropped in a giant shoe in the center of the very fun Florida town, but the dog parade takes place the next day on the first day of the new year.

Some of the dogs are wanna-be wieners. They participated, but they were not Dachshunds, yet they were very much welcome. Some of the bigger dogs were dressed as hot dogs in costumes.
The parade took pace in Old Town in the center of the city, and some of the favorites were dressed in Mardi Gras-like boas and feathers, some leather pants, a vampire, a few pirates and dogs wearing top hats in formal wear. There were many hot dogs.
