The holidays are over and the New Year has begun. Many people have acquired much more stuff over the holidays, than what they actually have room for. As people start to make resolutions to better themselves, they sometimes forget that there are things that can be done to assist in the betterment of others. Now is a good time to make a resolution to help others.

There are numerous ways that others can be helped. You could start with cleaning out your home to make room for the new gifts that you've just received during the holiday season. Old and unused furniture and clothing is always in high demand at charitable organizations. This scenario is a win-win situation, because you not only get rid of items that are just taking up space, but you also get to claim a tax deduction for the items donated to charity.

Another way that you can help others is through volunteering. There are local homeless centers, nursing homes, hospitals, and extended care facilities that would love to have the extra help. Volunteering costs nothing, but the benefits are endless.

If you have a passion for kids, then you could sign up to be a mentor. Mentors are in high demand since so many of them lack proper adult leadership, due to the overwhelmingly huge population of working parents. The parents would be extremely grateful and the kids would have a lasting imprint on their lives that would be invaluable.

These are just a few examples of the ways that you could help others. In actuality, the gestures would also help you with personal growth. These activities cost you nothing, except time, but the end results are priceless.
