Start on the path to career empowerment

If you live in Columbus, OH you have no doubt seen and even felt the pangs of this glooming economic recession. Businesses have folded; thousands of workers have been displaced, and on the surface things do not appear to be getting better. However, there is hope and maybe even a reason to start envisioning this recession as an opportunity for growth, rather than a daunting stint of misfortune.

Columbus, OH is vastly becoming a thriving metropolis that will continue to see progress as the economy begins to rebound. Millions of stimulus dollars are being put to work as the state's Recovery and Reinvestment Act makes plans to position Ohio as a great place to live, visit and work.

Did you know that Columbus is a central hub to most other states in the country? That means that it takes no more than 10 hours to get from Columbus, OH to most places in the United States making interstate commerce less expensive and Columbus, OH that much more attractive to growing organizations. Columbus is also home office for some of the fastest growing industries in the state and houses the largest college campus in the country.

Start your career journeyWhat does this mean for you? It means that there are opportunities out there waiting for you to take advantage of them. If you haven't already, begin using every resource available to you like the Ohio Means Jobs website. Here you can gain access to up-to-date job openings and an ocean of resources to aid you in getting one step closer to your new career.

Or maybe you hone the spirit of entrepreneurship. Did you know that during times of economic depression, businesses and business leaders are born and new industries are made? This is a time of self evaluation; a time for you to assess who you are, what skills you have and how those skills translate into a business that services the needs of your fellow Ohioans. Websites like monster.com and careerbuilder.com are great places to start when asking yourself, "What can I do with what I already have?".

Put on your investigative cloaks, break out your unlit pipes (because we don't want to promote unhealthy habits - but it just looks so cool) and get the best resource magnifying glass you can find; get your contacts together and begin networking like your life depended on it. You can not afford to wait for opportunities to pop up on job boards or social networking sites, nor can you sit idly by and wait for them to knock on your door while you rest quietly in your jammies watching life happen to you, instead of for you.

YOU HAVE TO TAKE THAT FIRST STEP. You have to make it happen. Take charge of your career and begin your journey to career success. Each step you make will bring you just that much closer to achieving your career goals.
