Memorial Day is traditionally the beginning of summer and it is a great time for your interior decorating to reflect the change in seasons. I mentioned in the article: Top five quick springtime home decorating tips that some simple steps can create a seasonal feeling in our homes.
Since it is the beginning of summer, consider changing out your table cloth, your door decoration and just the general feel of your home to reflect this. Remember you aren't staging your home to sell and you are not decorating for HGTV so you want to show who you are; let your personality show. Your home is your nest, your comfort zone and your very own spot in this world that is uniquely yours. Your home should be all about you and your family. Don't buy things just because they match. Surround yourself with the things you love. Consider the article suggestions for accessorizing your home for some pointers.
Americana themes are popular for summer. There are many things you can do to get that feeling from using things found around the house or purchased locally like at JoAnn’s or Real Deal’s. Have you seen the stars at the home decorating stores? They are great for adding some Americana touches. They are designed to hang on the wall; think about hanging three or five in assorted sizes. Want some inspiration? Consider attending the American Hero Celebration in Idaho Falls, Idaho.
Change out your throws or pillows with a summer color like white or blue. Have a quilt or throw in these colors? Drape them on the couch or use it as a table cloth. Place some accessories around your home to remind you it is summer. For some tips on accessories, check out this article: Decorating your home: how to choose accessories.
If you have been reading my articles, you have probably picked up that I like to focus on decorating with all of the senses. Knowing that, I would suggest changing your home scent to pick up the seasonal change; burn apple pie scented candles or use them in simmering pots. Have some cinnamon sticks in your cupboard? They will do just as well. Not a fan of apples scents then choose a scent like Fresh Linen. Candles are another great way to show some color too.
Your home can be an extension of your summer adventures. Expand your decorating to your yard. Here is a DIY Project: Show your pride in America with Americana decor in your landscape. Consider attending some some local events (here is a list from Pocatello, Idaho) and most importantly, enjoy your summer home. Summer goes by quicky!
