Start of Belmar boardwalk recovery heartening for runners (Photos)

Today New Jersey Governor Christie participated in the ceremonial start of construction of the Belmar Boardwalk on Ocean Avenue in Belmar, N.J. It’s a big step toward recovery for the Jersey Shore and especially heartening for runners who use the boardwalks year round at all hours for their regular runs.

According to Governor Christie, “Belmar is leading the way to recovery.” He also declared it, “A first great moment in the rebuilding of the Jersey Shore.” And, “This is the heartbeat of the state… where we restore ourselves.”

As runners we all understand the importance of the boardwalks which we have sorely missed these past several months.

Mayor Matt Doherty was at the side of the Governor as he spoke along with Congressmen Pallone and Smith. Mayor Doherty is an avid and accomplished runner and certainly understands the needs not only of all the residents of Belmar but the greater community of visitors, walkers and runners who use the boardwalk year round.

And as runners you can do your part in contributing to that effort by participating in the following events described below:

RRCA NJ Grand Prix

Run to Restore Virtual Run

RunAPalooza

Hopefully, the rebuilding effort will continue all along the Jersey Shore.
