Stars, producers, authors, critics come out as Broadway dims lights for Ruby Dee

It was destined that "A Raisin In The Sun" has enjoyed a rave revival on Broadway this seaon. Emmy, Obie, Grammy, Drama Desk, winner Ruby Dee starred in A Raisin in the Sun, Do the Right Thing and endless classics. For her role in American Gangster Ruby Dee was nominated for Academy Award.

Broadway Producer Tom Kirdahy, Terrence McNally (Mothers and Sons) and even Broadway Global were all present as Broadway showed respect to the iconic leader of arts and Civil Rights, Ruby Dee. The Tony Award tribute played during commercial breaks, and many went to social media to express how unhappy they were with the Tony Awards not showing the "In Memoriam" during the live telecast. The Tony Awards producers shared the tribute on their website, and posted the "In Memoriam" on You Tube allowing you to have social media control, and share the tribute to wider numbers than even the Tony Awards.

Ruby Dee was a member of NAACP, Congress of Racial Equality (CORE). Dee was honored with many Lifetime Achievement Awards, including the Freedom Award from The National Civil Rights Museum.

Ruby Dee was born Ruby Ann Wallace in Cleveland, Ohio in 1922. Ruby was raised in Harlem, joined the American Negro Theater. Ruby Dee worked with Sidney Poitier, Harry Belafonte just to name a few. Most remember Ruby Dee from the film The Jackie Robinson Story. "Let us not forget Ruby Dee, a true life humanitarian who has changed this globe society for eternity.
