The Des Moines Buccaneers traveled to The Ice Box last night to take on the Lincoln Stars. When the final horn sounded, the Bucs found themselves on the wrong end of a 7-0 shut out.
The Bucs managed to keep the game close in the first period, spotting the Stars to a 1-0 lead despite outshooting the home team 17-5. In fact, they managed to hold off the Stars until only three minutes remained in the period. Unfortunately for the Bucs, it would be the only period that they outplayed and outshot the Stars. During the second period, Jason Kasdorf faced 12 shots and allowed 4 more goals, two of them in the final minute of the period. Christian Frey replaced Kasdorf in the third period and faced 16 shots, allowing two goals. The Bucs could not get the upper hand offensively, and managed just 5 shots in the second period and 10 in the third. They also went 0 for 6 on the power play, while Lincoln went 1 for 2 with the extra man.
Newly acquired defenseman Nick Seeler played his first game for the Bucs, sporting #2 on his sweater. He finished the game with 4 shots on goal, no PIMs, and a -3 rating. Anthony Greco was the only player to tally more shots for the Bucs with 5, while Branislav Rapac also had 4 shots.
The Bucs are back at Buccaneer Arena this evening for a 7:05 start against the Tri-City Storm. The Bucs are now 13-19-3 on the season, but still in sixth place as both Tri-City and Sioux Falls lost their games yesterday evening as well.
