Stars attend the Met Gala: Best dressed of the red carpet

Anyone that is into fashion knows that the Met Gala is the fashion event of the year. However, there are many that feel that the gowns are often "over the top" and "costume-y", not realizing that there is always a theme for the major event. This year's theme was dedicated to America's first Couturier, designer Charles James. He specialized in breath taking ballroom gowns and the epitome of elegance. There were many who embodied this theme of elegance, decorations, and retro couture tonight, and that is what the night is about.

Although many were left wondering why, fashionista Lupita Nyong'o was a standout tonight at the Gala, taking the "decorations" theme and wearing a fun, dramatic Prada dress. The look was complete with a jeweled and feathered net over a mini brown dress that gave a nude effect. The look was extremely risky, and Nyong'o nailed it with class. Superstar Beyoncé Knowles-Carter was another standout at the gala, as she donned a retro-inspired Givenchy gown, which she accessorized with gloves and knee-high boots. The look was very femme fatale, and the star added edge with a dark lip color.

Blake Lively looked flawless in her Old Hollywood glamour style on the red carpet. Lively wore a beautiful Gucci gown, blush in color, that included a sexy plunge and an elegant cape style train. The look was very flattering on Lively and easily could be the best dress of the night. Karlie Kloss was another standout of the night, wearing a stunning Oscar de la Renta lame' gown. The black and gold look was perfect for the theme, very elegant and complete with elbow length gloves. Charlize Theron's beautiful black and white look was among the best dresses as well, a great floor length gown that was retro, yet somehow timeless.The actress draped a tuxedo across her shoulders in a very classic way.

Sarah Jessica Parker also donned a classic look of elegance, as she walked the red carpet in a beautiful black and white Oscar de la Renta ballroom gown. The gown was true to the way of her role as "Carrie Bradshaw", over the top and dreamy. The gown contained with black and white patterned train that added great detail to the fairy tale-style gown.
