Stars acquire Langenbrunner from Devils

What's old is now new again in Dallas as the Stars have acquired forward Jamie Langenbrunner from the struggling New Jersey Devils to help bolster their line-up heading into the second half of the 2010-11 season.

Langenbrunner, who was drafted by the Stars in 1993 and helped them hoist the Stanley Cup in 1999, was dealt to New Jersey in 2002 and also helped lead the Devils to a title in 2003. This season Langenbrunner had four goals and 10 assists in 31 games for the Eastern Conference bottom-feeding Devils.

The Stars hope he can return to form as they battle for top spot in the Western Conference. Dallas currently sits in third, three points back of Detroit for second and five points back of the conference-leading Vancouver Canucks. The Stars have a five-pint lead over San Jose in the Pacific Division, one of only two divisions which currently has all five teams with more than 40 points.

Langenbrunner has produced over 60 points in three of the past four seasons (he missed 18 games the year he didn't reach the 60-point plateau) and could easily get back to it playing with this talented squad in Big D. Brad Richards, Mike Ribiero, Brenden Morrow, Jamie Benn, Loui Eriksson and James Neal should all be vying to line-up with Langenbrunner once he arrives to the team.

Outside of his production on the ice, the Stars get a lot more value for their conditional third round pick they sent back to New Jersey (which could end up being a second round pick if the Stars advance past the first round of the playoffs or the team re-signs him in the off-season - Langenbrunner becomes an unrestricted free agent at the end of this season) in what he brings to the dressing room. Langenbrunner's been there. He's seen the ups and downs, the glory and the defeat - he's a winner. And he's got two rings to show it. And if everything goes according to plan, he may just have a shot to make it a third.
