Starting tonight, Rock Valley College's Starlight Theatre will be kicking off its summer season of musicals. The first show in their slate is The Sound of Music. This well-known and beloved Rodgers and Hammerstein work that also spawned an equally classic movie opens tonight and runs through this Saturday, the 7th. It will also have a second round of performances July 9th through 13th.
The next Starlight production will be Tintypes. This musical revue puts the ragtime and patriotic music of pre-World War I America front and center with selections from Victor Herbert, Scott Joplin, John Philip Sousa, and others, and features characters including President Teddy Roosevelt. Performances will be June 11th through 14th, and then again from July 16th to20th.
Third in line is Honk!. This family-friendly musical adapts the familiar fable of the ugly duckling for the stage. The first round of performances will be June 18th through 21st, with the second run playing from July 23rd through 27th.
Starlight's fourth musical is going to be Monty Python's Spamalot (which you may have seen recently at another theatre). This triple-Tony winner is based on the classic comedy film Monty Python and the Holy Grail, and will perform both from June 25th through 28th and July 30th through August 3rd.
Tickets for any of these productions may be purchased by calling 815-921-2160, can be bought in person at the Starlight box office, or may be ordered online. Group rates are available. Come out to Rock Valley College and catch any of these fun shows this summer!
