The Black Canyon Astronomical Society is inviting any interested stargazers to attend a telescope clinic and night sky viewing on May 11 at the Orchard City Town Park, located at 11245 2100 Road in Orchard City. The event is set to begin at 6 p.m. with an information and demonstration session for all interested beginners. Tips on telescope set-up and usage will be presented, along with advice on observing the heavens. Attendees can bring their own equipment or use telescopes that Society members will have available for public viewing. The group strongly recommends that anyone wishing to purchase a telescope attend at least one star party first.
After the initial training session, night sky viewing will begin. Members will help newbies identify the stars, constellations, planets and nebulae they are seeing. The Society asks that no white flashlights be used near the viewing area. Warm clothing is suggested.
The Society meets the last Tuesday of every month, except for during the months of November and December. For more information about this particular night sky viewing or about the Society itself, visit the website or call 970.856.7716.
