Veteran game show host Geoff Edwards has passed away.

The 83-year old entertainment personality died Wednesday, March 5 in Santa Monica's St. John's Hospital due to complications from pneumonia.

After a longtime career as a radio DJ and actor, Edwards became best known as a game show emcee, hosting programs such as Treasure Hunt, The New Treasure Hunt and Jackpot through the 1970s and early 1980s.

In 1983, Edwards became the host of Starcade, a game show that pitted video game experts against each other on the hottest arcade games of the day. While not a fan of video games upon taking the job, he quickly took to the electronic giants of the "golden age" of the video arcade, often speaking during tapings of the program about his affinity for Bagman and frustration with Donkey Kong Junior.

Starcade ran on WTBS (simply known these days as TBS) until January 1985. It later saw a brief revival in the program rotation for G4 in the early days of the network, before the merger with TechTV.

"Geoff was one of the cleverest, funniest radio and television personalities I've worked with," legendary game show host Wink Martindale told the Associated Press.

Edwards leaves behind his wife Michael and their two stepsons Jason and Justin. He also had three children from a previous marriage and nine grandchildren.
