Starbucks stores seem to be popping up in the most far-fetched places on earth, but one just popped up on in a very unexpected place: the Pacific Ocean. Indeed, the coffee company that is based out of Seattle has now installed a franchise aboard the USS Boxer, a Navy warship moored off the coast of California. This news comes from reports from the Navy itself on Feb. 13.
According to MSN who quotes a press release from this branch of the military, the menu runs the Starbucks gamut, from signature coffees and teas to the outlet's popular smoothies.
As for the earnings from this entrepreneurial franchise?
The Navy-run venue gives all profits to the Morale, Welfare and Recreation fund of the ship. However, the Seattle-based company's reps made sure that everything served on board meets Starbucks standards.
To do so, Starbucks trained all baristas who double as crew members, or perhaps, in this case, it's the other way around.
According to Lt. Cmdr. Leon Quarles, assistant supply officer for the USS Boxer, the newly dubbed Starboxer (the fresh Starbuck's store's official name) has a mission and that mission "is to provide a premium-quality of coffee service to the crew."
That said, this is not the first time Starbucks coffee has been offered at sea. In fact, the USS Carl Vinson's onboard diner called Chuckie's Cafe has been doing so for more than a year. To say the sailors aboard that vessel are happy about this, uh, perk, is to be downplaying the situation. In fact, many say Starbucks coffee onboard is "something to look forward to every day." These happy military personnel are glad to be able to sip a bit of home brew while they are off at sea.
With that in mind, that same situation for the personnel aboard the Navy vessel known as the USS Boxer will now be possible because their home away from home now boasts it's very own Starbucks on board and ready to serve.
