Starbucks' customers could buy someone else a friend or family their favorite beverage and be rewarded with a free tall brewed coffee in return for their kindness.
"The U.S. federal government shutdown, the pending debt and default crisis, waning consumer confidence and the general sense of unease these and other events have instilled in the minds of so many have created another period of uncertainty in our country. This offer is a way to help fellow citizens support and connect with one another, even as we wait for our elected officials to do the same for our country," Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz wrote.
Starbucks is hoping by their example of paying it forward, actions can speak louder than words and politicians follow their lead.
