Starbucks and Mickey Mouse: Winning Combination at the Magic Kingdom (Photos)

June 22, 2013

Open your Magic Kingdom Guide Map as you enter the park, and you'll find that Mickey Mouse and Starbucks have teamed together to bring "Starbucks espresso and specialty beverages, artisan breakfast sandwiches and pastries" at Walt Disney World's Main Street Bakery. The bakery officially opened with Starbucks as host on June 18.

The fact that Mickey has partnered with Starbucks has caused some consternation among some folks, but if you pop your head in at the Plaza Ice Cream Parlor, you'll see it's hosted by Edy's Grand Ice Cream. Across the street from the bakery, at Casey's Corner, Coca-Cola proudly hosts soft drink products. The Crystal Palace, in turn, is hosted by Kellogg's.

Starbucks, like Edy's didn't exist in 1906 when Walt's family moved to Marceline, Missouri, the inspiration for Main Street U.S.A., but corporate sponsorships (or lessees as they were called at one time) have been the staple of Disney's theme parks since, well, when Disneyland opened!

[As an interesting side note--Starbucks officially started in 1971--the same year Walt Disney World opened.]

If you head to the bakery in the morning, prepare to stand in a queue because the bakery serves as a quick service dining option for guests. Currently, breakfast choices include sandwiches such as bacon and gouda, ham and cheddar, or sausage and cheddar. You can also munch on spinach, feta and cage-free eggwhite breakfast wraps. And, bakery items (like in any Starbucks) exist to satisfy your sweet tooth!

Don't expect Ethos water or cake pops like you normally see at your regular Starbucks, but there are Tazo blends of tea, as well as Starbucks signature coffee espresso drinks like Caramel Macchiato, and classic blends such as Caffe Americano.

Kellogg cereals and Coca-Cola products are available for purchase: presumably a nod to other hosts in Main Street U.S.A.

You can also use your Starbucks gift cards or reward cards, and you'll get credit for those purchases too but right now guests can't "load" up their cards with money value so you may want to reload on-line before you arrive.

One thing missing, though, are the souvenir tumblers that are customarily sold in Starbucks stores.

Leaders at the bakery and Main Street U.S.A. areas are promising to provide those tumblers soon.

Meanwhile, you'll just have to settle on paper coffee cups that have both the Disney Parks and Starbucks logo.

Enjoy!
