‘Star Wars’ Tumblr to entertain and provide updates

Lucasfilm released its first “Star Wars” Tumblr Thursday December 19 only weeks after opening an account at the other famous photo sharing site, Instagram, for the famous space epic. The Tumblr offers “comics, clips and . . . art” from the movies. But this is no mere amateurish fan micro-blog. As its motto states, it is composed of “official transmissions from a galaxy far, far away . . .” Yet it still caters to the fans.

The Tumblr introduced itself with its first post, an animated gif from a scene from “Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope”. The gif shows droid R2-D2 (a.k.a. “Artoo”) generating a hologram of a feed of Tumblr posts whereas in the movie he generates a hologram of Princess Leia. Also on its initiation day, the Tumblr displayed never before seen concept art for the future animated series, “Star Wars Rebels”. The art was a painting of a panoramic view of a city.

The second day of the Tumblr’s launch featured its second animated gif: an image of “Episode IV”’s film release poster depicting Leia and Luke Skywalker who is holding up a light saber that’s rays shimmer. That same day the Tumblr also posted its first comic strip, Part One of “Han Solo at Stars’ End” which is based on the novel of the same name. The comic strip was originally released in syndication by the “LA Times” in October of 1980.

Other content that the Tumblr will feature will be under the categories of “Artist of the Week” and “Character of the Week”. The two pages for these categories are empty at the time of this writing but, as a message advises in the manner of Yoda when a user clicks into them from the navigation bar, “Check back soon, you should.” Another feature on the navigation bar is the “Submit” feature, which allows visitors to contribute content. So fans can participate in contributing to this official “Star Wars” venue!

According to TheForce.net, the Tumblr will be a home for official updates for the “Star Wars” franchise.
