Star Wars joined Instagram on Monday and did not disappoint the world of smart phone users.

The first photo was a selfie of Sith Lord Darth Vader with casualties of Rebel fighters and Imperial Stormtroopers lying lifeless in his wake. Additional pictures of Darth Vader and his son Luke Skywalker in a heated lightsaber battle and a Star Destroyer concept model have also been posted.

Sci fi fans are reacting well to the new account. It has garnished over 84,000 followers; Vader’s selfie received more than 24,000 likes and over 2,000 comments in the first day. Their only complaint is that there aren’t more pictures.

The account is expected to take off with Episode VII multimedia and plot hints once filming begins in the spring of 2014. Fans can also follow the official Star Wars Twitter account for updates on the new trilogy.

With J.J. Abrams on board as producer, director and screenwriter along with Lawrence Kasdan and a rumored return of the original cast fans are anxious for the December 2015 release of “Star Wars: Episode VII”.
