'Star Wars' gets Han Solo and Boba Fett spin-offs

Fans of Star Wars comics and the expanded universe they helped create for the franchise are in for some rather exciting news. According to an article posted yesterday by Entertainment Weekly, not only will Disney be making Episodes VII, VIII and IX of the epic space saga, but they will also be releasing two new standalone films starring a couple of fan favorites: Boba Fett and Han Solo.

Disney chairman and CEO Bob Iger announced the plans yesterday, showing that Disney is obviously wasting no time getting their take on the classic series off of the ground. Solo and Fett are two of the most popular characters to come out of the franchise, so it is also no surprise that they were chosen to headline the first films that don't have "episode" in the title. Also, since the films will be set between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, there is the possibility of seeing Darth Vader and Jabba the Hutt on the big screen again, which is something that is sure to get people exciting.

According to Entertainment Weekly's sources the projects are still in the very early stages of development, so the direction of the films changing before release is highly probable. No matter what they decide to do, though, fans of the franchise are always willing to give a new Star Wars tie-in a shot - comics, films or otherwise - and Disney has a guaranteed money-maker on their hands with George Lucas' massive universe of characters.
