'Star Wars' filmmakers and issues entering Tataouine for filming

See also

According to the South China Morning Post on Dec. 8, in the area of Tataouine where the original "Star Wars" film had been the chosen location for the fictional Tatooine planet., concerns of security and terrorist unrest could make things problematic for "Star Wars" crews to return to the location from whence it all began. Currently, that region of the country partakes in parallel trade and a transit location for terrorism and weapons. At this point, the Libyan military is too weak to do anything about it.

Since the filming of "Raiders of the Lost Ark" and "The English Patient", the amount of filming that went on from that period of time until now went from 40 to just only about five films per year. All this had occurred in 2011 where the Tunisia's rebellion triggered the Arab Spring revolts.

There is some hope that security will be put in place for the future of J.J. Abrams' "Star Wars" films and perhaps bring a "spark" to Tunsia.
