After acquiring the exclusive gaming rights to the Star Wars franchise, EA has now stated that Star Wars: Battlefront will be the premier game from the Star Wars universe and the publishing giant hopes to redefine gamers’ perception of the intellectual property. As reported by Polygon on Aug 21, EA’s Patrick Soderlund revealed that the publisher hopes to reintroduce Star Wars to gaming fans in the same way Batman: Arkham Asylum made the comic book license popular to a new era of players.
Star Wars: Battlefront is being developed by DICE, the development team responsible for the Battlefield series. It has been confirmed that the game will feature options supporting both first and third person camera preferences. In order to try to capture the feel of the franchise, DICE has been given access to the code from past LucasArts developed Battlefront games, including entries of the series that were previously unreleased.
Like many games currently in development under publisher EA, Star Wars: Battlefront is being developed using the Frostbite 3 engine.
