"Disney Infinity" was introduced Tuesday with a mish-mash of characters from different Disney properties including "Pirates of the Caribbean", "Monsters University" and "The Incredibles." But what about a certain recent Disney acquisition from LucasArts or the giant universe of Marvel comic book superheroes under the House of Mouse's umbrella? Those are a possibility too.
When asked if "Star Wars" or Marvel's "The Avengers" could make an appearance in "Disney Infinity" one day, Avalanche Software CEO John Blackburn said, "I hope so!"
"As a developer, I so want that," Blackburn told Polygon. "When Disney bought Lucasfilm, I was like, 'Holy crap! This is awesome!' But at this point in time, there's been some discussions about that, there's just been no decisions made."
So while a duel between Darth Vader and Perry the Platypus seems in reach, Blackburn broke down how characters are chosen to be included in "Disney Infinity".
"The idea that we usually try to get to is 'what do people love?'" Blackburn explained. "What kind of properties are most game-able? If there's a gameplay mechanic that adds significantly to that mashup experience in the Toy Box, we love those properties, and will bring that into the game."
"Disney Infinity" is scheduled to launch this June for the Playstation 3, Xbox 360, Wii U, Wii and Nintendo 3DS.
